ALICE

Ever since the day Kwon basically dragged me out of the crack house and took me home, things been crazy. We all not only found out some interesting information regarding Lisa and Kwon, but Big Regg sniffed out that I was getting high, even though neither Kwon nor I said anything.

Big Regg made it clear when I first relapsed a few years earlier after Regg was murdered that if I started doing drugs again, I was out of his house. At that time, he had already started stripping me of everything: my clothes, jewelry, car, and even money.

I left my parents’ house with nothing but the clothes on my back. Big Regg took me in and made sure I had everything I needed and wanted. A roof was over my head, clothes on my back, food on the table, and I was away from a toxic situation with my family. I would forever be in debt to him.

When I mentioned I found the rock in Lisa’s clothes when I was doing her laundry, he didn’t believe me and, of course, she denied ever having it. Once he was out of earshot, her and I exchanged some words.

“You took the bait, you old hag,” Lisa whispered in my ear.

“Don’t worry, your green ass better sleep real lightly,” I responded and walked off before I did something to really be put out on the streets.

It was sad I had to play by their rules and stay in my place in order to survive. There was no one else to help me get on my feet besides Kwon, and he wanted nothing to do with me in that kind of way, he’d made it clear on numerous occasions. Part of me wished he’d give me a chance to make up for how I was, while the other part of me didn’t blame him for how he felt and his decisions regarding me.

I was already being mistreated in the house, but things got worst where there were times I didn’t get to eat. They’d spitefully go out to eat and leave me in the house and wouldn’t even have groceries, so I couldn’t cook.

Everything sent me down a dark place, and I mentally couldn’t take it. I had to escape so I did what I knew best: got high. I had a little savings stashed. Besides getting some quick fast food to eat, I would go cop some rocks; that way, I was full and sane. After I did what I had to, I would sneak back in, shower and look as normal as possible; some nights were harder than others.

When I woke up in the hospital, I was frightened and confused to what was going on. The only thing I remembered was inhaling. Next thing I knew, I was out. I searched the room for the emergency button because for some odd reason, I felt sick and weak, couldn’t even sit up properly. When I found it, I pressed it multiple times, causing a storm of nurses to rush into my room.
